Starter Questions

Matt told a story about a text message from his son that didn’t go all the way through. All he saw was the word “help,” even though Jackson was only making fun of country music. When was the last time you experienced a false alarm like that?

Message Questions

Read John 20:1-25. What are some details that stick out to you in this story? Which character do you relate to the most?

The biblical authors honestly report their own flaws, ignorance, confusion, volatile emotions, and other strange details (like who got there first). What does this fact suggest about how we should understand ourselves as we try to follow Jesus too?

Matt suggested Thomas’ doubts were a result of his stubbornness. Let’s start with some positives; what can healthy stubbornness look like? How have you seen stubbornness get in your or someone else’s way?

Matt suggested many of our doubts are tied to hurt. People are more likely to be mad at God than think he doesn’t exist. Have you seen this to be true?

Challenge

Read John 20:26-32. How does Jesus respond to our doubts, stubbornness, or pain?

That final verse (John 20:32) means when it says, “by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” How do you think our faith in Jesus and his resurrection give us “life?”
